Artists Bio

About Lou

My emerging practice focuses on spreading awareness on current issues I feel are important and need brought directly to the attention of the public realm.

During my time studying my BA honors degree in Art and Design at Stirling University in conjunction with Forth Valley College I developed a wide range of skills. Skills such as fine art and contemporary style drawing, illustrating, painting, casting, wood working, working with negative space and found objects to create installations.

I am interested in exploring a wide range of topics but I am most passionate about those that make a difference. As a young artist living within a society with a strong potential for change, I believe it's my duty as to highlight these issues within any means I can.

In my work I draw on personal experiences and opinions to create and evoke strong emotional responses in the viewer. Creating mutual feeling allows me to connect with those viewing my work even if I am not present.

LGBTQ+

As an LGBTQ+ artist living in Scotland, it would only make sense that my career highlights elements of Scottish LGBTQ+ history alongside current events.

Alongside my creative pursuits in life I am forever driven to care about the bigger picture & this has led to my current "day job" at LGBT Youth Scotland. Somewhere i didn't think I'd end up when creating the artwork below, but now I see the pathway this created for me, I must share it with you.

Please use the resources linked to all the imagery as and when required. They may inspire you or they may make your realize just how far you've already come.. Let's strive for both!?

Below you can see the resources and research I used to create my original artwork from 2022 depicting the timeline of LGBTQ+ history since legalisation. This features in my portfolio but it deserves a place in the bio without all the process shots.
